Not Reading but Dancing is a collaborative process-led exhibition by Mila Harris-Mussi and Daisy Gray. The exhibition is a stream of material reactions and responses stemming from String Figures.
Found all over the world with myriad origins, String Figures are the ancient art of manipulating and looping a piece of string around your finger; the most common being the Cat’s Cradle. Each pattern and figure tells a unique story, has a certain rhythm and movement, with an element of play and tension.
The gallery space is transformed through knitted textiles, ceramic tiles and natural dyes, which are all a direct response to the shapes, forms, histories and stories found within String Figures.
