Installation view, distinction between felt flesh, Davinia-Ann Robinson, 2022

San Mei Gallery is a non-profit independent space for contemporary art in South London, committed to research-led, educational and collaborative exchanges.

First opened in 2017, we operate with an artist-led approach and support artists and curators to experiment with new ideas. Our cross-disciplinary programme of exhibitions and events exists to develop emerging and mid-career artistic practice in London and further afield.

We also run regular open calls and artist residencies, as well as operating an artist-led shop and small number of artist and sound studios in our building. Should any opportunities become available they will be advertised through our mailing list.

Partner Organisations

San Mei is run in conjunction with our sister space, Van Gogh House London, a Georgian terraced home in Stockwell, London where Vincent Van Gogh once lived. Every member of our team works across both spaces. We are also partnered with Aspiring Van Gogh, an educational organisation and studio complex in Chengdu, China.

San Mei Gallery has worked with local organisations, including the local Tenants and Residents Association (LEAF), Lambeth Archives, Baytree Centre, Blak Outside, CHIPS, Soho Studio Brixton, Myatt’s Field Park, Longfield Hall, Rapport Festival; as well as London-based and international organisations including Tangram, It’s Freezing in LA!, The Healing Collective, Paradise Row Projects, Project Credit, Subsidiary Projects, Royal College of Art, Royal Drawing School and Slade School of Fine Art.

We are grateful to all previous and honorary members of our team including Ludovica Bulciolu, Benjamin Arthur Brown, Janet Currier, Milan Tarascas, Keranie Theodosiou, Jian Wang and Ming Zhou, for their support and ideas, making San Mei Gallery what it is today.
