Mockingbird Workshop with Milan Tarascas

Tuesday 10 May, 10am–5pm

£25

Join artist Milan Tarascas for an all-day experimental ceramics workshop.

Mockingbird—‘A person that takes on the personality of anyone they are around during that period of time, having no real personality of their own.’

Patterns of mass production permeate the everyday causing our bodies to incorporate repetitive regularities. Milan Tarascas uses ceramics as a means to explore social embodiment and how dominant ideologies can be covertly materialised, preserved and encoded in somatic norms.

Programmed to conjunction with Feral Partnerships exhibition BIRDSEYEVIEW at San Mei Gallery (8 April—21 May), this workshop has been designed to reflect the research based nature of the exhibition.

The session promises to be improvised and experimental in nature, exploring the pull between the chaos and control in the process of making. With large-scale ceramics as the driver, participants will be invited to fragment non-linear narratives, make leaps between different places, times and contexts and collaboratively explore complex relations and connection between object, instrument, the individual and society.

The event will run from 10am—5pm on Tuesday 10 May in San Mei Gallery’s basement workshop space, with an hour-long break for lunch.
